What is an Unreached people Group - UPG?
Various mission agencies and church denominations have varying definitions of an UPG. In general, and for our purposes at PNC, we define an UPG as any number of individuals who perceive themselves as sharing the same culture, language and values of life. They have a name or identity and a specific location, but they have not heard the good news of Jesus or many have heard and not responded as yet to the Gospel. Although there may be some "isolated believers" and some missionaries working with the UPG, they do not have believers gathering together for worship, and there may be believers meeting together but they don't have the Word in their language as yet. There are approximately 6600 of these people groups in the world today. The Mwani of Mozambique have been selected as a group PNC desires to partner with that meets all the criteria listed above. There are approximately 100,000 Mwani located on the coast of Northern Mozambique.
