Baptism & Dedication

BaptismWhat is baptism?

Baptism is a sacrament - a means of grace - for the believer. Baptism in itself does not save - only your faith in Christ does that. But baptism is an act of responsive love (obedience) in which one declares their willingness to follow Jesus Christ. It is a public and outward sign of the inward work of God's saving grace in the individual's life.

"For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast." ~ Ephesians 2:8-9

Baptism illustrates Christ’s burial and resurrection.

"Having been buried with him in baptism, in which you were also raised with him through your faith in the working of God, who raised him from the dead." ~ Colossians. 2:12

"For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures." ~ I Corinthians 15:3-4

Baptism illustrates your new life as a Christian.

"Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!" ~ 2 Corinthians 5:17

"We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life." ~ Romans 6:4

Who should be baptized and when should they be baptized?

Every person who has believed in Christ should be baptized.

"Those who accepted his message were baptized, and about three thousand were added to their number that day." ~ Acts 2:41

"But when they believed Philip as he proclaimed the good news of the kingdom of God and the name of Jesus Christ, they were baptized, both men and women. Simon himself believed and was baptized. And he followed Philip everywhere, astonished by the great signs and miracles he saw." ~ Acts 8:12-13

There is no reason to delay your baptism. As soon as you have decided to receive Christ into your life, you can and should be baptized. If you wait until you are "perfect", you´ll never feel "good enough"!

"Those who accepted his message were baptized, and about three thousand were added to their number that day." ~ Acts 2:41

"Then Philip began with that very passage of Scripture and told him the good news about Jesus. As they travelled along the road, they came to some water and the eunuch said, “Look, here is water. What can stand in the way of my being baptized?” And he gave orders to stop the chariot. Then both Philip and the eunuch went down into the water and Philip baptized him." ~ Acts 8:35-38

Baby DedicationThe Dedication of Children or Infants

Parents are encouraged to present to God their infant or young children - who are too young to make a faith decision regarding Jesus - in covenant act of dedication. This signifies for the young child God's acceptance within the community of Christian faith on the basis of God's grace which goes before the child, preparing him or her for a personal decision of faith in Jesus Christ.

In presenting the child to God, parents are witnessing to their own personal Christian faith and to their purpose to guide him or her early in life to a knowledge of Christ as Savior. It anticipates the child's personal confession of faith in Jesus Christ.

Selected Sundays are set aside throughout each month for the dedication of infants and children. If you would like to dedicate your child, please register for our next opportunity.
